... The night had turned to grey. I watched him drag on his shorts, climb out the window. He didn’t look back. The ocean was making a rushing noise like when you hold a shell up to your ear. It was sad lying there thinking how things might have been, but eventually I fell asleep again....
Eight weeks before Sun’s final school exams she meets Tycho. Accepting an invitation to a party at the beach, she hopes to deepen their relationship that's begun through a sensitive exchange of poems, but confusion about the afternoon's events leads her to believe he's involved with someone else. Messages for Sun is about love and loss, friendship and betrayal amid the intensity of a first relationship.
About this edition:
An earlier version of this novel titled Saltwater Moons was published in 2008. Thanks to the readers who contacted me about Saltwater Moons - your messages inspired me to get the story back into print. Due to copyright restrictions, the poems used in the original text have been replaced, and there's an extra chapter at the end. I hope these new elements come close to satisfying the readers who were keen for Saltwater Moons to continue. Published in August 2015 by Wallaby Press, Messages for Sun is available as an ebook or paperback edition. Signed, gift-wrapped paperback copies are available from this website - see below. Libraries can purchase copies through ALS Library Services.
